Join UCHealth's renowned Medical Oncology team as a Physician Office Nurse in Denver, Colorado. In this full-time role, you will deliver compassionate, high-quality nursing care to cancer patients, collaborating with oncologists, specialists, and multidisciplinary teams to support treatment plans, manage symptoms, and enhance patient outcomes in a state-of-the-art outpatient clinic.
Key Responsibilities
Assess patient health status, administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other oncology treatments under physician supervision, and monitor for adverse reactions. Provide patient and family education on disease processes, medications, side effect management, and self-care strategies. Perform procedures such as venipuncture, IV insertions, wound care, and injections while maintaining accurate electronic health records. Coordinate care including scheduling diagnostic tests, referrals, and follow-up appointments. Triage patient calls, respond to urgent needs, and facilitate smooth clinic operations. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection control, and compliance with oncology nursing standards.
Required Qualifications
Current Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) license. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN preferred). Minimum 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience, with oncology or outpatient experience highly desirable. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification a plus. Knowledge of chemotherapy protocols, pain management, and supportive care in cancer treatment.
Skills
Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction and team collaboration. Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems like Epic. Compassionate demeanor with the ability to handle emotionally challenging situations. Attention to detail, multitasking, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with oncology-specific tools and safety protocols.
